Elegant French châteaux are scattered across Northern France. If you are able to rent a car and drive across the region, then you are truly spoilt for choice.
Perhaps the most beautiful amongst the established favourites of Loire Valley is the Château de Chenonceau, a glistening diamond floating upon the River Cher.
Another firm favourite in the Loire Valley, 16th century Château d'Azay-le-Rideau is a quaint gem on the Indre.
For a deeper perspective of medieval France, Château de Vitré provides a glimpse into the past without hefty crowds.

Located close to the German border, Strasbourg is an iconic city drawing tourists and many students. The medieval vibe is heightened by timbered-homes lining the delicate water-ways as they weave through the old town.
Close by, Colmar is a gorgeous town, reached in under an hour from Strasbourg. It’s well worth investing a day or two to wander this relaxing fairy-tale town. Both Strasbourg and Colmar become particularly alive and vibrant during Christmas, when seasonal markets draw in crowds from near and far.
